The South Dakota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics intends to establish a blueprint for developing the aviation system in South Dakota, through the development of the 2010 South Dakota State Aviation System Plan (SDSASP).

The significant federal and state investment that has been made in both commercial and general aviation airports throughout the state must be maintained.  Consequently, an update to the SDSASP has been initiated to provide a document that will provide appropriate guidance and recommendations to the South Dakota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics for the management of the aviation system of the State of South Dakota.
