Mead & Hunt, Inc.

Mead & Hunt – Dairyland

With the hiring of architect Harold Balch in 1949, Mead & Hunt expanded into architectural services.  Although the engineering firm had constructed several projects without the assistance of a staff architect, Balch’s presence allowed Mead & Hunt to expand its services.  Because Balch previously owned a firm, Mead & Hunt assumed Balch’s clients.  This helped the firm expand into offering services for food and dairy processors.

During his tenure, Balch provided architectural drawings for the Wisconsin Creamery Company Co-op in Sauk City, the Service Building and three pumping stations for the Madison Waterworks, as well as the main office building for the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District.  His association with the Senna family led to a number of dairy projects for the firm during the 1950s.  Since that time, Mead & Hunt has retained numerous food and dairy processing clients and has expanded its services to include not only design, but electrical, wastewater, refrigeration, and process engineering.
