Compatible land use study – National Association of State Aviation Officials
Mead & Hunt has been a long time proponent of compatible land uses around airports and it was a natural fit for Mead & Hunt to assist the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) with an assessment of national trends. In response to the Memorandum of Understanding that NASAO had recently signed with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it was determined that a formal report on the status of land use issues would be beneficial to provide a baseline to work from.
Mead & Hunt conducted a survey of the State Aviation Directors for the 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and Guam. The survey responses resulted in a confirmation of the assumptions that has previously been made. These findings indicated a moderate to high concern about the continued growth of incompatible land uses near airports and the lack of proper regulation and implementation of preventative and corrective methods dealing with these issues. Mead & Hunt summarized the findings of the study and have been making presentations on the findings to various interests groups since the conclusion of the project.
