Section 106 and Section 4(f) evaluation and documentation – CTH X
Waukesha County Highway Department – Genesee Creek Bridge, Saylesville, Wisconsin
Mead & Hunt assisted Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Waukesha County with the identification of historic resources in the Area of Potential Effects related to this bridge replacement project. During the survey and evaluation steps, the existing bridge was determined to be a contributing resource of the Saylesville Historic District. The collection of mid-to-late 1800s buildings and structures represent the early settlement related to a mill. Our team obtained WisDOT’s and State Historic Preservation Office’s concurrence on the district’s eligibility.
Mead & Hunt coordinated public involvement efforts to gain local input on the project, including preparing and distributing a project newsletter, organizing and directing a public meeting, coordinating the distribution of historical information regarding Section 106 and the National Register program, and facilitating discussions with local property owners regarding mitigation measures. Through these efforts, Mead & Hunt assisted in the identification of critical issues to minimize the effect to the historic district. Mead & Hunt also successfully completed compliance with Section 4(f) receiving project approval from the Federal Highway Administration.
