Snowy owls “invade” northern US

Dan Hirchert is our FAA-qualified wildlife hazard damage biologist. He will occasionally chime in on the blog, sharing insight he’s gained from 20 years of experience in all aspects of aviation wildlife hazard management.

Primarily breeding in the Arctic tundra of northern Alaska and Canada, snowy owls usually migrate south to the United States in small numbers. This year more than 90 birds have been reported in Wisconsin alone!

What you should know about EAS funding

A few weeks ago the United States Congress passed what is being called a “minibus”, which is essentially an appropriations bill funding certain departments for the 2012 fiscal year. One of the departments that was funded inside of this bill was the Department of Transportation.
The bill included funding for the Essential Air Service program, which could potentially have an impact for years to come on smaller communities nationwide. Jeffrey Hartz explains certain excerpts from the House Resolution (HR) 2112. Continue reading

Spirit Airlines gives Arizona travelers more options

Good news for Phoenix-Mesa area travelers! Spirit Airlines recently announced that it will begin offering its low-fare service from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to Las Vegas and Dallas/Fort Worth with one-stop Fort Lauderdale service.

Big changes in Phoenix air service

This week marks a new era for air service in Phoenix. For more than a decade, the regional flights that operated on behalf of America West Airlines and US Airways have been performed exclusively by a subsidiary of Mesa Air Group. Starting December 16, that will change when SkyWest Airlines puts its first two of 14 CRJ-200 aircraft on the line flying as US Airways Express in Phoenix.
